Knife care instructions

PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL REMOVING THE KNIFE FROM IT’S SHEATH, YOUR KNIFE IS EXTREMELY SHARP !!!!!

Your new knife is made from high carbon steel and will rust without proper care. However the blade is acid etched and this finish will prevent rusting to a degree.

  • Please keep a light coating of gun or mineral oil on the blade if storing for long periods.

  • Always completely dry your knife off after use and when putting into the leather sheath.

  • As the blade is made from carbon steel it will develop a gray aged appearance especially if used to cut acidic foods. This is completely normal and actually makes your knife less prone to staining and rusting.

  • Sharpening can be done on an oil stone or a ceramic sharpening rod. I do not recommend sharpening steel unless it is a diamond coated one.

  • While the steel used in your knife is incredibly strong and resilient, it is not meant to be used as a prying tool or screw driver. It is a cutting tool.

  • The leather sheath is treated and water proofed already. But I recommend using saddle soap if the leather appears to be drying out and for general cleaning of the leather.  If leather oil is used, please use sparingly as it can be over applied and softens the leather too much.

  • When you receive your new knife it will fit into the leather sheath extremely tight. This is normal as the sheath is wet formed around your knife and when dry retains its form to hold the knife firmly in place. Over time the leather will break in to a degree and it will be easier to remove the knife but should still be held firmly by the leather.

“DO NOT PUT THESE KNIVES IN THE DISHWASHER” this will damage the handle and will void the warrantee.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Your knife has a life time warrantee when used for its intended purpose which is cutting and does not include abuse.

All my knives have a lifetime guarantee. If there is ever a problem, when used for their intended purpose, I will repair or replace your knife for free.

Thank you again for your purchase,

Scott Hawley
